Speech Title: Evaluation of Nutritional Habits in Individuals with Mutations in the LEPR Gene
Biography: She graduated from the Nutrition and Dietetics (English) program at Istanbul Bilgi University and pursued a master’s degree in genetics, continuing my academic career through an integrated PhD program. As part of my academic work, I carried out a study titled “Evaluation of Nutritional Habits in Individuals with Mutations in the LEPR Gene”. Specializing in nutrition, nutrigenetics, and epigenetics, I conduct multidisciplinary research examining the effects of genetic factors on nutrition. In collaboration with the Epigenetics Coaching team, I develop genetic-based health solutions and provide educational programs. By analyzing individuals' genetic data through personalized genetic test panels, I offer in-depth evaluations on topics such as diet and nutrition, metabolic syndrome, autoimmunity, mental health, weight management, sports, drug interactions, and vitamin-mineral supplementation. Additionally, I investigate the effects of bee products on DNA damage in a laboratory setting. My research focuses on apilarnil (drone bee larvae) in the context of reproductive health, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and epilepsy, while also exploring the impact of royal jelly on collagen production and health. Drawing from my clinical and academic experience, I founded the Nutrition Genetic and Health Center by Esra Şahin to provide genetic-based health and nutrition consultancy, developing personalized health strategies tailored to individuals' genetic profiles. I actively contribute to the academic community by presenting my scientific research at international conferences. As part of the 2nd International Epigenetics Congress, I delivered a presentation titled "The Nutrition Paradigm in Complex Diseases" during the session "The Role of Nutrigenetics and Epigenetics in Personalized Diet Programs." Additionally, at the "Future Perspectives in Preventive Health" conference hosted by the International Cyprus University, I shared insights on "Nutrigenetics and Innovations in Personalized Treatment." Furthermore, on October 7-8, 2024, I presented my findings on "The Importance of Nutrigenetics in Detoxification" at the 2nd European Human Genetics Congress in London, discussing key discoveries on the relationship between genetics and nutrition. Beyond my academic pursuits, I remain actively engaged in media and digital platforms to raise public awareness of health, genetics, and nutrition. By leveraging these platforms, I aim to educate broader audiences and promote the widespread understanding of nutrigenetics and personalized health approaches.
