Track 24: Adolescent Behavioral Issues

Adolescent behavioral issues can include defiance, aggression, mood swings, and substance abuse. These issues can be caused by a number of factors, including physical and mental development, peer pressure, and substance abuse.

Common behavioral issues

Defiance: Arguing with parents or siblings, talking back, or name calling

Aggression: Starting physical fights, breaking items, or lashing out at others

Mood swings: Unhappiness, depression, or a generalized feeling of being down

Substance abuse: Using drugs like cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, or hallucinogens

Impulsivity: Acting without thinking or having a low frustration threshold

Lack of focus: Having trouble paying attention or controlling behavior

Rule-breaking: Testing boundaries or breaking rules

Withdrawal: Wanting privacy or not wanting help from parents

How to address behavioral issues

Maintain open communication with your teen

Understand the developmental changes they are going through

Set clear boundaries while allowing some flexibility

Encourage responsibility and ownership of decisions

Provide support and guidance rather than judgment

Seek professional help when necessary
