Track 29: Physical Activity and Fitness

Physical activity is any movement that uses energy, while physical fitness is a measurable state of health or skill. Exercise is a type of physical activity that is structured and planned to improve physical fitness. 

Physical activity 

Any movement of the body that uses energy, such as walking, dancing, or playing sports

Can include aerobic, flexibility, and muscle-strengthening activities

Examples include active chores, yard work, walking the dog, running, and bike riding

Physical fitness

A set of attributes that include strength, endurance, flexibility, and body composition 

Being physically fit can help lower the risk of developing diseases like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure 

Exercise

A planned, structured, and repetitive physical activity that aims to improve or maintain physical fitness 

Examples include lifting weights, doing push-ups, and using resistance bands 

Pre-exercise screening 

A safety net to help identify people with medical conditions that may increase the risk of adverse events during physical activity
