Developmental disorders are a group of conditions that can impact a child's physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and communication development. They can be genetic or environmental in origin. 

 

Examples of developmental disorders:

 

Autism spectrum disorder: A developmental disorder that can affect a child's social and communication skills 

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD): A neurodevelopmental disorder that can affect a child's attention and activity level 

Intellectual disability: A developmental disorder that can affect a child's ability to learn, reason, and solve problems 

Cerebral palsy: A developmental disorder that can impact a child's physical development 

Hearing loss: A developmental disorder that can impact a child's ability to hear 

Fragile X syndrome: A developmental disorder that can affect a child's development 

Tourette syndrome: A developmental disorder that can affect a child's

 

development Causes of developmental disorders:

 

Genetic: Chromosomal abnormalities, such as the extra chromosome 21 in Down syndrome

Environmental: Exposure to substances like alcohol, drugs, or tobacco during pregnancy

Biological: Low birth weight, premature birth, or lack of oxygen during birth
